Originally built as a 1500-seat movie palace by Publix Pictures, a subsidiary of Paramount Pictures, the Peekskill Paramount Theater first opened its doors to the public with great fanfare on June 27, 1930. Programs include theater, dance, music, fine arts, story telling and poetry readings, and other cultural activities, as well as related workshops, master classes and lecture/discussions.

Hudson Valley MOCA, a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts and education organization, was founded in Peekskill, New York, by Livia and Marc Straus, significant collectors of contemporary art since 1968. The museum works with an international roster of renowned artists as well as emerging local talent.

After taking in all the history the Hudson Valley has to offer, why not take a shopping break? Woodbury Commons, a premium outlet mall, is the place to go, being just over a 20-minute drive away. The mall features over 250 of the most sought after, high-end fashion and designer retail brands in the world, at savings of 25% to 65% off, every day.

Just shy of 20 minutes away, guests can drive to West Point to check out the visitor center & museum. They also have the option of signing up for a guided bus tour of the entire campus or catch a football game at Michie Stadium.

Located just a mile from the hotel, the landing features a shoreline boardwalk & a pedestrian footbridge, leading to Riverfront Green Park. The park is an ideal spot to have a picnic with the family & take in the sights of the Hudson.

Just a quick walk across The Abbey’s parking lot leads you to Fort Hill’s hiking trails. There are (2) trail routes, white & red. Both trails are just short of a mile, so they are perfect for any family to walk. Both trails are even ideal for running.

About a 13-minute drive from the property, Bear Mountain State Park offers many opportunities for enjoying the outdoors, year-round. Activities include hiking the Hudson Highlands, swimming, boating, and fishing on Hessian Lake, ice skating, picnicking in shaded pavilions, and cross-country skiing.

Often called “the most popular day hike in America,” Breakneck Ridge is a challenging climb in Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve. The trails on Breakneck Ridge test hikers of all ages with steep rock ledges and then reward them with sweeping views of the Hudson River. *recommended for the more advanced hiker* About a 20-minute drive

Guests can either drive or take a train to Poughkeepsie NY, to visit the Walkway, which features a stunning panorama view, of high above the Hudson River, at the center of the park. A vicinity map of the area points out nine Discovery Zones, along the Walkway experience. Each zone is a manageable size for a short visit and covers a variety of options: wild parks, waterfronts, historic urban districts, and a small hamlet.

Take a stroll through the Hudson Valley and beyond. From historical Nyack and spooky Sleepy Hollow to nature experiences, there is walk for all ages and abilities.

This site is recommended for all the animal lovers & families. Just shy of a 40-minute drive from the Abbey, the WCC teaches people about wolves, their relationship to the environment, and the human role in protecting their future.

If guests plan to visit Poughkeepsie, we recommend guests to take advantage and make a short trip to Hyde Park to check out the Culinary Institute of America.
